Last week I was overly concerned about growing all the pepper plants I seeded. They require an 80 degree consistent environment for fast germination. So superheated my greenhouse to ensure lots of heat. Well, I also cooked some trays of lettuce seeds in the process. Whoops! After trying a 25 year old electric blanket wrapped around the seed trays, and a couple of trips to neighbors greenhouse asking for tips, the 4 days of rain were a blessing in disguise. The cool weather allowed us to fire up the wood stove and in came 9 trays of seedlings to sit right next to it. All the worry and fussing was really not needed and it all worked out in the end. Sorry lettuce!! New trays of lettuce have been re-seeded and all is right in the greenhouse world.
In other news, I picked up the deer fence today and it's ready to be placed around the field. Our new BCS rototiller from Craig's List works great, and the peas are happily planted out in the field. Next up, scallions, pea greens, mixed greens, arugula and spinach will be planted out in the field.
